What a retrospective! The Von Donk family delivers an old-timey, vociferous vaudevillian vestige of vibrant victory.
This show is so joyous and generous it feels like an entire family is onstage, giving you every ounce of energy they have. Accompanied by the ultra-talented pianist and character actor Greg Lavell, the trio performs spectacular songs spanning the centuries—sure to make you smile. Greg’s musical talents and perfect diction are skilfully stylised to draw the audience back to a time when vaudeville was at its peak.
Louisa Fitzhardinge’s melodic voice is stunning, and her brilliant characterisation and comedic timing had the audience laughing aloud. Her facial expressions inspired both frivolity and empathy as the story unfolded.
Andrew McClelland’s stage presence was enthralling. He quickly established a rapport with the audience, getting people toe-tapping along to well-delivered tunes. A fantastic character actor, his performance embodied the true essence of vaudeville.
The costuming perfectly complements the show’s nostalgic musical stylings, while the lighting and sound enhance the performance seamlessly. A cyclorama enriched the storytelling with projected images and even guided the whole audience in a super fun sing-along.
It is always deeply joyous to see people singing and smiling so hard that their cheeks hurt!
