Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett maintains the exceptional level of artistry, sass, sizzle and awe that we’ve come to expect from this gang of misfits. Congratulations team, ten out of ten.

Every year I take my ringside seat pondering what’s to come. Every year I witness things I could never have predicted. What’s never in question though is the professionalism of the acts and no wonder since they’ve performed in Vegas, the West End and Cirque Du Soleil. How lucky are we?

Welcomed in by the salacious vocals of Queen Bernie, we’re called upon to open our minds, rid ourselves of any inhibitions and be our true selves. Bernie didn’t need to ask twice, the audience was clearly up for it.

This year the acts included sword swallowing, fire wrangling, hand balancing, aerial work, spine bending contortions and if that wasn’t enough, there’s two sisters suspended by their hair. Oh, plus a killer live band. Rather than try and describe the performances as there’s no way I words could do them justice, here’s a taste.

The evening ended with more thought-provoking songs from Bernie and the inevitable raucous standing ovation from the crowd. The old Ice Cream Factory was shaken to its foundations.

I very rarely give a 10 but with this show you just have to.

There was one simple little act that left an indelible impression on me. It involved a stunning artist with an exquisite body, bouncing up and down on a cake made of shaving cream. Now whenever someone upsets me, or my friend who came along, we pull up that image and silently recite the words “bounce, bounce, bounce”. It brings a smile to my face every time. So, if you’re having a shot at me and I smile back, now you’ll know why. Thank you Bernie for this life hack.

While the Ice Cream Factory is a great venue the large fans did have trouble on a hot 40 degree night. I recommend taking a paper fan with you, especially you if plan to sit near the stage during the fire acts.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, don’t miss the Queen of Weimar punk Bernie Dieter and her debauched troupe.
