This show was great for fans of Taylor Swift, lots of references to songs and lyrics, and it's just fun being in a room with people who all love Taylor Swift and want to have fun in the fandom.

Missing the Eras Tour? You can catch the next best thing with Dean Robinson's #SwiftTok at FRINGE WORLD, a delightful and hilarious deep-dive into the world of Taylor Swift fandom and social media obsession.

This one-man show takes audiences on a journey through the inner workings of social media's number one fan group, offering a perfect niche for Swifties and comedy lovers alike. Robinson nails the comedic timing, making the hour-long performance fly by in an instant. He effortlessly engages the crowd for the full duration of the solo show bolstered by the great outfits and crowd interaction which add an extra layer of entertainment to the show. Robinson's ability to blend Swift-specific humour with broader pop culture references ensures that even mid-range Swifties can enjoy the show.

However, potential audience members should note that some jokes might go over their heads if they're not well-versed in Swift lore or as Robinson puts it… the TCU (Taylor Cinematic Universe).

What's particularly remarkable about #SwiftTok is Robinson's adaptability. After discovering he couldn't secure the rights to use Swift's songs, he had to fill 20 minutes of his original show with new jokes and stories. This adjustment is seamlessly integrated, and viewers would never guess the show was originally conceived differently.

Whether you're a die-hard Swiftie or simply curious about the phenomenon of online stan culture, #SwiftTok offers a fresh and funny perspective on fandom in the age of social media. It's a must-see for anyone looking to experience the next best thing to the Eras Tour, all while enjoying a good laugh at the delightful absurdity of fan culture.

#SwiftTok is playing at the Middar Room at State Theatre Centre of WA from January 17 to 25, 2025, as part of the Fringe World Festival.
