Jessie Gordon’s Approximate Folk is everything live music should be – original, relatable, and intoxicating.

The aptly named first song ‘Fill Me Up With Words’ was a taste of the luscious evening to follow, with an exquisitely crafted set of music that felt like poetry running through the veins of the audience.

Jessie is a talent to be reckoned with as a storyteller and songwriter. With a voice that is equally powerful and soulful, Jessie and her band took the audience on a visceral musical experience, with Western Australia as the backdrop, and a swinging New Orleans vibe.

The exceptionally talented seven-piece band featured frontman Mark Turner on vocals and electric guitar, Karl Florisson on double bass, Michael Perkins on drums, Jon Knox-Matthews on electric guitar, violinist Emily Gelineau and Grammy award-winning pedal steel player Lucky Oceans.

The audience felt a deep red love of music as the spotlight was shone on each band member for a mini solo, showing off some epic individual talents that resulted in a show that was far more than ‘approximate’. A special performance by jazz vocalist Emma Franz was an unexpected delight in an already fabulous evening full of soulful stories, fabulous energy and a whole lot of fun.

Love live music? Jessie Gordon’s Approximate Folk is for you – a guaranteed night of frolicking fun, foot-tapping tunes and damn-good music.
