The Scottish burr of Mistress of Ceremony Whisky A'More is almost too sexy for the hot air of Connections on a sweltering Perth evening (it was 40ºC earlier). But for the chance to watch some of Perth's up and coming burlesque and cabaret performers, it is worth the sufferance. This show is making its fourth appearance at FRINGE WORLD, where the purpose is to highlight the new, the quirky and for seasoned performers, to trial something risky (if not risqué).
And so it delivers, with a roster of performers being their true selves in front of an audience that is welcoming. It is the most delightfully inclusive and generous atmosphere one could hope to be a part of - and a full house to boot.
The guest performers were Blake Cassette embodying their true self in a startling passionate number, and you can always rely on a drag queen to make every seat wet. Anita Wigl'it is no exception with her all body, all thrusting number. Of much interest to me is the rise in the number of drag kings, of which there were two this night. They were contemporary dance numbers and exciting to watch.
The performers change every night, so there is reason to go again and again if you dare (for bare). Anyone who loves Scotch whisky knows single malt highland distillers are the best, and Whisky A'More has done it again, with another choice batch.
