Once the lights go down and the comics start reeling off material, you’ll forget that it’s still daylight outside. This show has everything that a late show has, from racy one-liners to elaborately constructed bits that unfold like a Russian doll. This show offers a cross-section of Fringe’s compelling comics, all with time left to make it home for supper!
The night I saw featured seven performers. Each brought their own style to the show, and all are a credit to the diverse and talented pool of performers on offer in Perth. Standouts at the show I attended included Canada’s own Tor Snyder, Tim Motley of Philadelphia, Adelaide’s Benny Darsow and Perth local Gareth McGee. Each of these comics riffed comfortably off the crowd and injected a steady stream of laughter into the room. I was especially pleased to see them adapt their sets on the fly for a particular member of the audience. That person will remain anonymous in this review, but it is special that every gig promises an organic experience.
Back from the UK, WA comic and writer Brodi Snook headlined. Snook is a discerning and perceptive comic. She has her finger on the pulse of a raft of topical issues yet dwells on none too long. Incisive and daring, and not afraid to shake up preconceptions, she may well be one of this year’s most interesting comics.
You are in good hands at the Early Show, where you can be amongst the very best of Fringe's comedy line-up.
