On a balmy summer’s evening in the State Theatre Courtyard, sipping on a crisp white and being serenaded by the beautiful Etta D’Elia, it’s easy to feel as though you’re living La Dolce Vita in Italy.

Kicking off the show by entering through the audience and singing as she went in a glamourous floor length gown, Etta stole hearts from the start.

Etta, backed by a four piece band and two backup singers, took us through a stunning display of some of the best Neapolitan music, remixed into a jazzy style.

The wind instrumentalist was the stand out performer from the band, in my opinion. He playing no less than six instruments, from saxophone to flute.

Etta’s vocal range was just as diverse and throughout points of the show she brought in some opera lines which dazzled the audience. The line-up also featured two special guests. Perth’s very own Mr Accordion Man as well as a musician hailing from Iran who played the oud.

My favourite song was the Dean Martin cover of That’s Amore, probably because we played that at our wedding so it had sentimental vibes for me. However, sitting under the stars and watching the glamourous band break into song, it was hard to pick just one tune as a favourite.

Some of the world’s best exports come from Naples – the espresso and Margherita pizza to name but a couple – and I think we can now add Etta to the list.

A show not to miss this Fringe, especially if you’re a jazz and/or Italian lover. Catch her this weekend!
