Filthy: 4u2 was a spectacular show that had me, and the entire audience, laughing, woo-ing, and clapping for more.
The atmosphere for this show was electric. I had never seen such an active and riled-up crowd fiending for some filthiness. Perhaps it was the late Friday night showing, the sweltering heat, or most likely the prestigious reputation of the all-local performers, but the reception of each act being so loud and joyous made enjoying the show all the easier.
As for the acts themselves, there was never a dull moment. The pacing left me feeling shocked an hour had already passed as the excellent host Veronica Jean Jones announced the upcoming act to be the final. Even when there was a smut reading, acting as a moment of reprieve from the raunchy and horny physical performances up to that point, it was clear that it was a welcome variety from the crowd’s indulgent giggling and gagging between each camp line.
Ruby’s performance on the pole was a sight to see—both my friend and I had our mouths agape in disbelief at some of the manoeuvres on display. Keeping an organic flow for a spectator while also showing a mastery of mechanical skill and athleticism.
For many of the performers, it’s a joy to hear they are in multiple shows, which I will surely be attending even more eagerly now, as it would be an injustice to the performers and audience for them to be cordoned off for only one show.
Filthy’s concoction of performers are a great fit for each other, showcasing a great variety between lip-syncing, vocal performances, burlesque, pole, and smut reading. It runs the gamut of all sexiness on offer at Fringe and has collected the best to perform their best together, with many ensemble performances where each performer is playing to their strengths in highly choreographed displays.
A must-see!
