What a fantastic and joyous way to open FRINGE WORLD 2025 by seeing Circus The Show at The Rechabite.
Hosted by ringmaster Magnus D Magnus, this is not so much a traditional style circus, but more of a one hour festival of comedy and very talented acts.
The show is held together by the ringmaster and his sidekick The Clown. The repartee between them is magical as the predominantly under 12 audience giggle, laugh and shout at the two protagonist on stage. You can see why this is a much awarded show as the professionalism of just these two shine on stage. The slapstick comedy is aimed at the kids, who eat it up, but the secret to their success is the adult-based comedy sprinkled in for the parents in the audience. It is a well balanced and fluid show.
The show kicks off with a warm-up by a clown performing playful magic tricks, while the charismatic ringmaster whips the pint-sized crowd into a frenzy using an old-school suitcase contraption as a cheering meter. The first act, Halle Hellstead from Denmark—a Taylor Swift lookalike—wows the audience with her impressive hula-hoop antics, delighting kids and adults alike. Next up, “all the way from Mexico,” is Ricardo Desperado, a world-class juggler whose incredible mastery leaves the crowd in awe. Finally, Sam Sam The Magic Man from Italy takes the stage. Though his set is brief, it’s nothing short of amazing, as the kids enthusiastically try to unravel the secrets behind his mind-bending tricks.
All three acts are reintroduced for a second even more spectacular performance at the tail-end of the show. What the parents will love about this circus is the fast-paced high energy performances of all the acts; one hour flies past.
What the kids will love about this show is the gorgeous interaction between them and the ringmaster and the talented performers. They are encouraged to be loud and to participate. Not an iPhone in sight: it’s pure analogue entertainment- just like the old days!
A special mention for the finale. The way the start of the show was neatly tied into the end was not only genius but a belly laugh reaction for the entire audience.
There are not many shows left of this award-winning and 5-star show. I suggest parents get your kids to the Rechabite and catch Circus The Show before it ends.
