I enjoyed Robyn’s part of the show as she is clearly very personable, engaging and shared the some very interesting science of making decisions! I also quite liked the quiz night feel later in the show. Look forward to seeing more in the future, maybe with the neuroscientist or other science experts :)

What’s better than a late-night comedy show? A late-night comedy show with educational value! In Comedy for the Curious: Bad Decisions, Robyn Perkins hosts a panel of comedians to discuss their bad decisions as well as help us make our own using completely sound scientific practices… promise.

As we were entering the venue, we were asked to anonymously write a dark decision we needed to make. Being anonymous, the juicier and darker, the better! Audience participation was encouraged throughout the show, with opportunities to detail a significant life choice or reflect on others’ experiences. If you are interested in this kind of participation, would recommend having a couple up your sleeve to draw on.

Now you don’t have to be a science nerd to enjoy the show, Robyn was eager to share her passion for the amygdala. Don’t know what that is? Neither did I! But all the fun science is explained in a simple manner so even those who’ve had a few too many drinks can still enjoy. Robyn’s charisma and honest charm connected with the audience instantly. It was like having a chat with an old friend, a hilarious one at that!

The guest comedian for this show, Christian Elderfield, entertained utilising his British accent and self-deprecating humour. Unfortunately, the other guest was unable to attend. Both comedians persevered through the logistical challenges, tailoring their sets to suit the audience’s engagement level.

While the show could benefit from a bit of refinement, I had a great night full of laughs and learning new things. Hope to see this show back again next year!
