Holy Wow, These two Women are so bloody talented. Completely irreverent, clever and eye wateringly funny. One for the Girls Gays and Theys.

High Pony is the latest offering from comedic duo Mel & Sam, taking you on a whirlwind, tongue-in-cheek cabaret extravaganza that explores everything from waterslide workers to cancelling babies. Always over the top, lavishly queer and completely uninhibited, this performance is a must-see for anyone who has their finger on the pulse of the Australian comedy space.

High Pony is a hilarious, sexy and self-aware performance. Featuring an impressive lineup of musical comedy, each song or sketch is more unexpected than the last. Certain jokes will leave you jaw-dropped in a collective “did they really just say that?”. With some delightfully placed Perth-specific comedic references, Mel & Sam know exactly how to connect with their audience and play off the energy of a crowd.

The performance starts with an epic nine-minute ode to the inherent lesbian eroticism of netball, with high-energy choreography and vocals dripping with passion. Highlights include the clear attention to detail in their lyricism paired with some stunning moments of improv that were truly the height of the performance. In particular, a wardrobe/prop malfunction ended in some of the most hilarious improvised on-stage banter. The ironic humour caters well to a Gen Z audience, especially those who have had the pleasure (or displeasure) of dating on the apps or experiencing a co-dependent lesbian relationship.

Shamelessly sexy in its queerness, High Pony has the room rolling with its clever wordplay, comedic timing and visual gags. There’s never a dull moment as the show is expertly paced and makes an hour performance feel like the perfect taste of some of Australia’s best young comics.
