Dirty jokes, knob jokes, innuendo, full frontal smut is all on offer and didn’t we lap it up!
Shaggers is a worldwide Fringe staple bringing together a bunch of stand-up comedians to regale the audience with their take on sex, relationships, sexuality and anything related.
The broad sex theme and the later time slot means the audience can expect the rude, the crude, the smutty but also gives the comedians plenty of room for manoeuvre – variety on a central theme.
The main man, the MC, the Big Shagger if you like, is British comedian Nik Coppin who has all the skills to warm the audience up and get us in the mood. He’s been involved with this show for many years and comes across as a jovial witty fellow with a sharp tongue when needed.
As with many of the ‘best of’ type of shows at FRINGE WORLD the success of the evening depends on the particular line up of performers on the night and we enjoyed a great line-up of ‘Shaggers’.
First on was Kate Smurthwaite, all sharp high-energy wit as she ran us through the fundamentals of ‘the Country Game’ – let’s just say map of the world meets map of Tasmania and a few of the stories behind the scores.
Next to appear was Amy Hetherington, trying modestly to convince us that our eyes were deceiving us and that she actually didn’t feel sexy on account of her much-loved but frequently disappointing husband and the challenges of new motherhood.
Amy was followed by David Rose, whose understated style was self-deprecating to the point where we were left wondering whether as well as being a virgin Shagger, he is indeed a virgin shagger.
Our fourth Shagger was experienced Irishman Donal Vaughan. His chirpy yet deadpan delivery had us rolling about as he explored topics such as what makes a good dick pic and whether sex without a partner counts.
It’s interesting how many euphemisms there are for sexual acts and that’s not including the deviants. And almost any of this could come your way on the night – so be prepared to listen carefully and be tickled pink by your Shaggers.
