An incredibly funny and often heart-warming two-person comedy show that touches on the hilarious - and often confusing - experience of coming out!

Walk down the stairs of the Rechabite and enter the Goodwill Club to see a small stage with an assortment of queer items (and icons), surrounded by seats - all facing forward - focusing on the stage before you.

The lights dim, and Kate Sophia Willoughby and Aves Robins approach the stage and proceed to welcome us into their comedic space - and their queer experiences.

'Funny Stories To Tell In The Closet' is a hilarious and camp stand-up show that explores the personal 'coming-out' experiences of both Kate and Aves. The show starts with the two performers engaging in entertaining banter with themselves and the audience.

After this introduction, both Kate and Aves begin take turns presenting their solo stand-up performances.

Kate brought the audience together as she discussed her memories of the bisexual experience and having to balance all sides of the coin, while also acknowledging the issues that come with being bisexual - like making a decision or cutting your hair and nails short to 'signal'.

Aves took us through the experience of coming out as transgender and having to ‘prove’ that you fit within the binary of gender within a westernised society dictated by cisgender people who think the age old question of gender is 'skirt or pants?'.

From discussing individual experiences with family and friends, to the acknowledgement of queer-baiting and stereotyping of queer people in history and media, these two comedians bring you into the heart of who they are and how they interact with the world around them!

Both are very important topics and discussions that need to happen more within the world – not just Perth – and I personally hope this comedic duo helps the world understand some of the experiences of queer people.

A must-see - and you should definitely come out and support these talented comedians this Fringe!
