About this event

Get Funked Up with Fringe Award-Winning, Biggest, Baddest and Loudest Brass Band! Let music inspired by the dirty south ripple through your body.

Let the shrieking of trumpets, wailing of saxophones, growling of trombones, crashing of drums, the bellowing of a sousaphone, and the sultry vocals of Perth's finest, transport you from Perth to the streets of New Orleans during Mardi Gras! Listen to a ballsy blend of funk, hip hop, jazz and the contagious, dance-inducing, street-brass sound that is steeped in hundreds of years of tradition.

From Etta James' 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' and The Dream Girls' 'Love You I Do' to Britney Spears' 'Toxic' and Rihanna's 'Umbrella,' there is sure to be a song for everyone! Grab all your friends (and a drink) because it's going to get hot!!

Presented by:
Matilda Simcock

Matilda Simcock is a 21-year-old Perth singer, performer, composer and band manager. During her third year at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Matilda put together the group Funked Up Brass for the FRINGE WORLD 2019. Now, having completed a Bachelor of Music Honours, she is back to take to the Fringe stage again!

Matilda performs regularly around Perth in everything from duos to bands of 14, her roots deeply embedded in jazz. Matilda is influenced by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Esperanza Spalding, Gretchen Parlato and Katie Noonan. With a music degree under her belt, Matilda hopes to record and release an album this year whilst continuing to perform with Funked Up Brass!
