17-year-old Sahra is excited to start her new job as a disability support worker, 10-year-old Ahmed would rather stay home and watch Naruto again. Sahra is optimistic, chatty and wants to make a difference. Ahmed is bored, hates school, and wishes she would shut up and let him read. Sahra tries to fight bureaucracy, Ahmed tries to remember his friends' names and get 3/20 on his spelling test. And every Thursday for four years- they go for a drive.

A true story about dealing with change, friendship, anime, and a glowing reminder to take care, even when it comes from unlikely places.

"Car Rides With Ahmed" is a play based on the true story of a support worker's time supporting a boy as he juggles diagnoses of Dyslexia, ADHD and Autism through his early teenage years.

Sabrina Hafid is an Australian-Algerian interdisciplinary Performance Artist and Educator. Sabrina is passionate about working creatively with communities of culturally and linguistically diverse individuals of all abilities. She aims to promote understanding, self-empowerment and empathy within and between these communities.

Sabrina’s past FRINGEWORLD shows include co-writing and performing a solo theatre show, Passing, at the 2018 Fringe Festival. A semi-autobiographical piece that discusses experiences of growing up biracial and “Muslim-ish” in Australia.

Sabrina currently works as a Drama teacher at Leeming Senior High School and as a disability support worker at IdentityWA.
