FRINGE WORLD Festival 2016 keeps the Summer vibes going in Fringe-ary

FRINGE WORLD Festival today revealed its 2016 program that celebrates all things Westralian and good Summer vibes in Perth.

Fringe-uary only comes around once a year and it’s a time when Perth audiences are invited to explore this fine city of ours and check out shows at a big variety of venues, both in the city itself and further afield in neighbourhoods all over Perth.

Over 150 performance venues and performance spaces will open their doors to audiences, offering something for everyone with over 700 chillaxed entertainment options from January 22 to February 21.

Festival Director Amber Hasler said that FRINGE WORLD is a Summer celebration that has well and truly secured a special space in the hearts and minds of Westralians.

“We can’t wait to see you all at FRINGE WORLD,” Ms Hasler said. “It’s a delight to hear the audience’s stories about the shows they are seeing, the people that they’re meeting and the good times they’re having.”

“Fringe is the Perthect way to extend the Summer holiday vibes for another 31 days. The program has plenty to offer both our regular Fringe Fans and new audiences who will be treating themselves to some Fringe for the first time in 2016.”

Fringe’s spiritual home in Northbridge at the FRINGE WORLD Urban Orchard and the delightful playground The Pleasure Garden will be joined in 2016 with the Museum Gardens hosting the smash hit La Soirée.

Adding to the treats in the CBD is the FRINGE WORLD Fairground at Elizabeth Quay, which will be big on fun and offering families and absolutely everyone in Perth a big array of entertainments from 29 January to 6 March.

Everyone is invited to celebrate the Grand Opening of Elizabeth Quay and the FRINGE WORLD Fairground on Friday 29 January featuring free performances and a spectacular light, lazer show on the inlet plus acrobats, a vintage carousel along with live music and dance displays.

The five-week program at the FRINGE WORLD Fairground will also feature a premier line-up of events including LIMBO, the world-wide smash hit cabaret show, pop-up outdoor roller rink The Urban Roller Club, plus, the Fairground will be the only place where you can grab yourself a limited edition FRINGE WORLD Showbag!

The Pleasure Garden has become a firm favourite among Fringe audiences and in 2016 it will again play host to The West Australian Spiegeltent and be joined by night markets, heaps of communal dining and food options including a soft serve ice-cream bar and for the very first time, the Nova 93.7 Ping Pong Parlour. It’s the Perthect place to hand out with your #fringesquad

You’ll also be invited to lose yourself in the whimsy of the fantastical Get Lost Maze at The Pleasure Garden. Imagine Alice in Wonderland crossed with a Greek myth and you’ve got yourself one fun, quirky and intriguing adventure.

If the beating heart of the Festival is Northbridge, the soul is the suburbs. There is an unprecedented number of areas who will all be Fringe-afied including the return of Freo Royale, Midlandia, Victoria Park, Mandurah and Scarborough’s Sunset Veranda. In 2016 we welcome venues in Wanneroo, North Perth, Mount Hawthorn, Mount Lawley and Como to the Fringe family.

With such Perthect weather in February, audiences with insatiable Fringe appetites and artists descending upon our sunny shores from all over the country and globe, it’s no wonder that FRINGE WORLD Festival is now the third largest of its kind in the world.

We encourage all Perthlings to support you local WA talent this Fringe. When you enjoy a Westralian show you are supporting our very own Homegrown Heroes, the talented local artists and performers that make our state and city shine. Thanks to Woodside for helping us shine the spotlight on the best in the West. Visit fringeworld.com.au/homegrownheroes to see all the great local works on offer and find out more.

With a program that appeals to FRINGE WORLD fans of all ages, from kids to baby-boomers and everything in between, there’s more reason than ever before to go on a Fringe Binge. The average ticket price is just under $24, making it guaranteed to fit into any budget. There’s also a heap of fabulous free and community events including the Brookfield Bunnies who are making a returning appearance and the Curtin Garden Library nestled within The Pleasure Garden. Plus you can experience how it would feel to be Set for Life in the Perth Cultural Centre. Get pampered, sip on mocktails and chillax as you watch the Fringe go by.

FRINGE WORLD gets going on 22 January with an epic program of free and ticketed events to keep the whole family entertained every day over the 5-Day Super Opening Weekend, from the early afternoon into the evening.

The full program and tickets for all shows can be found at fringeworld.com.au from December 10. Get in quick as some shows will sell out fast. If you’re looking for inspiration, recommendations, tips and just generally Fringey pieces of info, visit the FringeFeed on our website.

FRINGE WORLD gratefully recognises the support of its partners including Community Partner Lotterywest along with Woodside, the Department of Culture and the Arts and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority.
